Call for Papers

The 2013 NACSA Annual Conference

New York, NY, August 9, 2013

The 2013 NACSA Program Committee (Lingxin Hao, the President, and Emily Hannum, the President-Elect), with the approval of the Board, is announcing this Call for Papers.

The 2013 NACSA Annual Conference (the Conference herein) will be held on August 9th in New York, NY, following the great tradition of our association to hold a one-day Conference prior to the Annual Meeting of the American Sociological Association (August 10-13).

First we have two pieces of exciting news:

    -  We will launch the Outstanding Student Paper Award this year. Papers authored by student(s) only, published in 2012-2013 or unpublished, in the language of English, and to be presented at the Conference are eligible for the competition. The student status must be valid by the end of Spring 2013. The Committee on Outstanding Student Paper Award includes Dr. Xiaoling Shu (Chair), Dr. Yao Lu and Dr. Bin Xu. One paper (published or unpublished) will be selected and the Award will be announced and presented with a plaque at the annual banquet.

    -  The Editor of Chinese Sociological Review (CSR), Dr. Xiaogang Wu, is considering the possibility of publishing selected papers (in English) from the Conference in CSR or a special issue of CSR after peer review.

The theme of the 2013 NACSA Conference is Social Change and Inequality in China. Examples of topics include but are not limited to:

    1. Education and Inequality

    2. Labor Market Opportunities and Inequalities

    3. Market Reform and Self-employment

    4. Changing Chinese Families

    5. Ethnic Stratification

    6. Urban-Rural Inequality

    7. Migration, Mobility, and Inequality

    8. Cultural Perspectives on Inequality

    9. Social Policy and Social Inequality

The conference is also open to other topics of interest to our members. We encourage scholars, researchers, and graduate students from the United States, Canada, mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and the greater Chinese Diaspora to submit papers/panels in either English or Chinese. All methodological approaches are welcome. We plan to hold 8 sessions in a two-concurrent format plus a plenary session at the end.

Submission Deadline: 1 May, 2013

Submissions should be emailed to: Lingxin Hao (hao@jhu.edu).

    -  Individual papers: Complete papers or paper abstracts will be considered.
