Nan Lin Graduate Student Paper Award
“Nan Lin Graduate Student Paper Award” was originally called “Graduate Student Paper Award”, used to reward young scholars engaging in innovative research on Chinese societies. ​
Dr. Nan Lin is Oscar L. Tang Professor Emeritus of Sociology at Duke University. As a world-renowned and highly respected sociologist, he has published substantive seminal work and mentored multiple generations of scholars in and beyond the research field of Chinese societies for about five decades. He especially played a vital role in the rebirth of sociology in China in the late 1970s, and has made significant contributions to the development of sociology in the Greater China region. ​
Dr. Nan Lin is also the founder and the inaugural President of the North American Chinese Sociologists Association (NACSA) from 1981 to 1990, which was renamed as the International Chinese Sociological Association (ICSA) in spring 2018. The Board of ICSA unanimously approved to rename the “Graduate Student Paper Award” as the “Nan Lin Graduate Student Paper Award” in spring 2018. The rationale for this change is to recognize Nan’s pioneer and significant contributions to the association and to the research area on Chinese societies, and to inspire the research endeavors of future generations of young scholars working on Chinese societies.
Annually the ICSA Graduate Student Paper Award Committee selects one graduate student paper and announces the award at the dinner of the ICSA annual conference. The ICSA Nan Lin Graduate Student Paper Award will be used to recognize and reward emerging young scholars in the study of Chinese societies.

How to apply
Graduate students are invited to compete for the Nan Lin Graduate Student Paper Award. One paper (published or unpublished) will be selected and the award will be announced and presented with a plaque and a check of USD 500 at the conference dinner or reception.
Papers to be considered for the Nan Lin Paper Award must be (1) authored by student(s) only, (2) in English, and (3) to be presented at the ICSA Conference. Student status must be valid as of the end of Spring of the year. Only complete papers will be considered. Please mark *Nan Lin Paper Award* in the Subject Area when submitting online.

Yu Xie Early Career Award
Yu Xie is Bert G. Kerstetter ’66 University Professor of Sociology and has a faculty appointment at the Princeton Institute of International and Regional Studies, Princeton University. Before joining the Princeton University in 2015, he was at the University of Michigan, most recently as the Otis Dudley Duncan Distinguished University Professor of Sociology, Statistics and Public Policy and a research professor in the Population Studies Center at Michigan's Institute for Social Research. He is also a Visiting Chair Professor of the Center for Social Research, Peking University. He is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, Academia Sinica, and the National Academy of Sciences. Prof Xie's main areas of interest are social stratification, demography, statistical methods, Chinese studies and sociology of science. This award is initiated to recognize and honor Professor Xie’s pre-eminent scholarship and pathbreaking contributions to these areas.
Call for Nomination
The International Chinese Sociological Association (ICSA) invites nominations for the Yu Xie Early Career Award.
The ICSA Yu Xie Early Career Award recognizes and honors individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to Sociology within 10 years of completing their doctoral degree. The award includes a certificate and USD $500. The winner will be honored during the Annual Meeting.

Evaluation criteria
The award selection committee recognizes the multi-dimensional nature of intellectual contributions and will pay attention to a variety of scholarly contributions, including, but not limited to:
1. Emerging body of significant and high-impact research in the form of publications that are likely to make a significant impact on theory, research, and practice.
2. Evidence of growing intellectual leadership in the discipline as reflected in editorial appointments, particularly of leading Sociology journals.
3. Other evidence of intellectual contributions that provide a platform for future success.
Nominators are encouraged to provide the award selection committee with specific indicators of the nominee's contributions in these and other categories.
Eligibility
Nominee
1. Members of this ICSA Awards Committee and the ICSA Board of Directors are not eligible to be a nominee for this award.
2. Former recipients of this Award are not eligible.
3. Nominees must be within 10 years of their terminal degree as of 31 December in the award year.
4. Nominees are required to be a member of ICSA
5. Nominees must be living at the time of their nomination.
6. Nominees not selected for the award in the year of the initial nomination are kept on file for automatic consideration again the next year, without requiring renomination. At the time of the Call for Nominations each year, nominators of previous unsuccessful nominations have the option of updating and resubmitting their earlier nominations.

2. Members of this ICSA Award Selection Committee may add additional candidates at their discretion.

Nomination instructions
An Award Selection Committee will be formed to select candidates for the award each year. Nominators can submit a nomination to the Chair of the Award Selection Committee. (See the conference website for each year for details about the committee.)
The nomination packet should include two items:
1) Nominee's curriculum vitae/bio.
2) The nomination letter should include a brief (not to exceed 600 words) description of the candidate's achievements and eligibility. The letter should identify the major contributions on which the nomination is based and explain why the nominee is especially qualified to receive this award.

Xiaogang Wu Best Paper Award
Xiaogang Wu is the Yufeng Global Professor of Social Science and Professor of Sociology at both NYU Shanghai and New York University. His research and teaching encompass Chinese society, education, inequality and social stratification, social demography, survey and quantitative methods, and urban sociology. As a leading scholar on social stratification and inequality in China, Prof. Wu has made significant contributions to the sociological understanding of Chinese society, particularly in analyzing social dynamics within contemporary Chinese cities.
Beyond his outstanding scholarship, Prof. Wu has dedicated himself to fostering scholarly exchange and building a global community for Chinese sociologists. He expanded the North American Chinese Sociologists Association (NACSA), founded in 1981 by Prof. Nan Lin, into the International Chinese Sociological Association (ICSA), creating a broader platform that includes sociologists of Chinese and non-Chinese descent across North America, Pacific Asia, and worldwide. Prof. Wu served as the first President of ICSA from 2018 to 2022, during which he played a vital role in strengthening the organization’s global reach.​
This award recognizes and honors Professor Xiaogang Wu’s scholarly achievements and his extraordinary contributions to the ICSA.
Annually the ICSA selects one outstanding paper and announces the Xiaogang Wu Best Paper Award at the ICSA annual conference. The award is given to the best original research paper authored by one or more ICSA members. Eligible papers must be published within the two calendar years prior to the award year. The selected paper will receive a $500 prize shared across the authors and a certificate. The authors will be honored at the ICSA Annual Meeting. At least one author must be an active ICSA member of the award year, and attendance at the ICSA Annual Meeting is required.
